Sewing
We will be making one drawstring bag. Your student will need to bring the following supplies:
- 1 fat quarter or an 18” X 21 or 22” rectangle of fabric
- Matching all-purpose thread (please make sure this is all purpose and not quilting or embroidery thread)

DRAWSTRING BAG INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1
With a 22 inch side at the top. Fold over the 18 inch side a 1/2 inch and iron. Do the same on the opposite side.

Step 2Sew the folded edge down the center on both sides.

Step 3Now, press the 22 inch side over a quarter of an inch (1/4") with an iron. Do the same on the opposite side.
Now fold over 3/4 of an inch of the 22 inch side and press again. |

Step 4
Sew a straight line along the inside fold, making sure to LEAVE ENOUGH ROOM FOR YOUR STRING TO PASS THROUGH easily. Do this on both sides.

Step 5
Fold in half right sides together ( Pretty sides together or inside out) with the 18 inch sides together and sew a straight stitch with a 1/2 inch seam allowance. Make sure to start just below the drawstring opening and backstick . Sew the bottom. This will make a rectangle.

Step 6
Stitch a little bit just on the seam for the top fold. this will secure the opening. Thread your cord through and tie a knot at the end. Write your name on your rubric and pin it to your bag to turn it in.
